Psychology of the Color Green

What does green mean?

Green has a variety of different meanings. Green can refer to renewal, growth, liveliness, health, natural, life, and spring.

 Communication with Green

Green is often used as a positive color to communicate. Where red is used as a, “no,” green is used as a, “yes.” Think of stop lights, check marks, or anything that is trying to communicate something positive.

Who uses green in business?

Many businesses that use green want to be perceived as healthy, natural, safe, environmentally friendly products, or organic.

Why Green for St. Patrick’s Day?

Green is seen almost everywhere on St. Patrick’s Day. Many people wear green, decorations are green, and rivers are dyed green too! Green was actually not the original color of the national holiday. The first color that was the actual symbol was blue! Blue was used all the way back to the 1780’s. Blue refers to the sky blue that was used by the order of St. Patrick. In early paintings, St. Patrick was always shown wearing blue garments as well.

Blue was replaced later on because Ireland’s nickname is the Emerald Isle. Another reason was that St. Patrick used green shamrocks when teaching people about religion. He used these because there were 3 leaves all in 1. This helped teach the Holy Trinity.
