So what is the Pantone Color of the Year for 2019?
Living Coral, 16-1546, is the Pantone Color of the Year! Pantone says that it is vibrant but mellow. Laurie Pressman stated, “Vibrant yet mellow Pantone 16-546 living coral embraces us with warmth and nourishment to provide comfort and buoyancy in our continually shifting environment.”
How is this color chosen?
The Pantone Color Institute chooses the color. They base the color on what is going on in the world. Pantone tries to choose a color that will express a certain mood or attitude. This year’s color is meant to express an uplifting and nourishing feeling. Living coral is bright and full of energy, but it is not too over powering.
Okay, but who is Pantone?
Pantone is a corporation in the United States that is located in Carlstadt, New Jersey. The specialty of Pantone is in fact color. Pantone aids companies in marking and branding with keeping the consistency of color and are well known for their Pantone Matching System. This system is how Pantone helps companies all across the world have a standard for the colors they use within their companies. Earlier this week, we had a social media post that said, “What is the Pantone Color of the Year for 2019?” If you noticed, the color in the picture was a pink in the same family of living coral, but it was not the exact living coral color! That is a prime example of the importance of the Pantone Matching System.
